CITY BATTALION CHIEFS SEEK BACKPAY
For Immediate Release
Santa Fe, NM – Four City of Santa Fe Fire Department Battalion Chiefs have sent a demand letter to the city asking for back pay in the amount of $147,973.00 for work dating back to 2009. The amount of money represents 5,531.86 hours of overtime work for which they have not been compensated. They have been attempting to be paid pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FSLA) with no success. They are also asking the protections of the collective bargaining agreement between the City of Santa Fe and the Santa Fe Firefighters Association as non-exempt employees and thus overtime at the rate of time and a half going forward. Further, as the City of Santa Fe has understaffed the position, the Battalion Chief’s are demanding that the City fully staff the position going forward.
